Kosmos Stargazing Resort & Spa is a sustainable stargazing resort on 40 acres in Colorado's San Luis Valley, 18 minutes from the entrance of Great Sand Dunes National Park. Built off-grid from hempcrete beneath Bortle Class 2 skies, Kosmos welcomed its first guests in April 2025 and in April 2026 became Colorado's first DarkSky Approved Lodging property. Three Stargazing Villas, each with its own telescopes and a stargazing spa dome, are open today, with a fourth villa and a Welcome & Astro Lounge under construction. Founded by Gamal Jadue Zalaquett, Kosmos was funded by the most funded resort campaign in crowdfunding history and is planned to grow to 37 keys and a Stargazing Center with a 1-meter-class telescope and planetarium.

Sky & setting
Bortle Class 2 skies at 7,600 ft. Bordered on the east and north by roughly 700 acres of conservation land restricted to sustainable use, preserving unobstructed views of Mt. Blanca and the Sangre de Cristo range.

DarkSky Approved Lodging, DarkSky International — April 2026. Colorado's first.

Open now — Phase 1
Three Stargazing Villas: 1,200 sq ft, sleeps 4 (maximum 7), from $700 per night. Each villa is three connected structures — living dome, bedroom, and stargazing spa dome with private jacuzzi — with a Celestron Origin and a 10" Dobsonian telescope. Astronomer-led stargazing tours are open to overnight guests and visitors. Villa 4 and the Welcome & Astro Lounge are under construction.
Building next — Phase 2
The first two Kosmos Suites (early 2027), followed by the Galaxy Villa, an eight-suite building, the Stargazing Park, an event space, and a limited spa and gym.
The full vision — Phase 3
A Stargazing Center with a 1-meter-class telescope and planetarium, targeted for around 2029. Alamosa County has approved 37 keys — expanded from the 20 approved in 2023.
Sustainability
100% off-grid — solar power, a deep well, and hempcrete (hemp-lime) construction. One of the largest hemp-lime projects in the United States when complete.
Crowdfunding
Launched July 30, 2024 after roughly 7,000 VIP sign-ups; more than $900,000 raised on launch day; $2.27 million net across Indiegogo and direct presales — the most funded resort campaign in crowdfunding history.
Founder
Gamal Jadue Zalaquett, Founder & CEO. Fifth-generation hospitality: his grandparents ran a hotel in Arica, Chile for more than 30 years. Has visited 35+ countries and stayed in 150+ hotels; former software executive.
